한국의 교육 현실에 깜짝 놀란 케임브리지 졸업생

한 일년 전 쯤 저희 영국 친구들이 한국 수능 영어문제들을 풀어보고는 깜짝 놀랐었는데요! 한국 문화의 이런 모습은 크리스 신부님과 제니가 전혀 경험하지 못한 부분인만큼 두분이 이번 여행 중에 수능을 준비하고있는 학생들을 좀 만나보고 싶다고 하셨어요. 그들에게 궁금했던 것들도 물어보고 그들의 삶에 대한 얘기도 들어보고 싶으시다고요. 크리스 신부님과 제니는 “독서실”이나 “학원”이라는 단어 자체를 처음 들어보셨는데, 어쨌든 그렇게 한국 수험생들을 만나러 가게 되었답니다! 제니는 세계 최고 명문 캠브리지 대학을 졸업한만큼 제니의 학교 생활을 한국과 비교해보고 각각의 문화에서 서로 배울 수 있으면 좋겠다고 생각했어요. 한국 수험생들에게 조금이나마 힘이 되어주고 싶었는데 막상 만나보니 학생들의 성숙함과 성실함에 정말 깜짝 놀랐답니다. 완전 리스펙트!!

Over a year ago our British friends tried answering questions from the English section of the Korean SAT, and had their minds blown! This is a part of Korean culture that Chris and Jenny have had no other experience of and on this trip they asked if they can meet some students who are in the midst of intense KSAT studies, ask them some questions and get an insight into their life. Chris and Jenny had never heard of «dokseoshil», the Korean self study rooms that students pay to study in, or “Hakwon”, Korean after-school academies — so we went to one to meet some students! As Jenny graduated from Cambridge, one of the top universities in the world, we thought it would be interesting to see how her student life differs from those of Korean students, and learn from each others cultures! We hoped to bring some encouragement to the students in Korea, and were surprised by their maturity, and of course their famous hard work. Maximum respect!
